I’ve eaten at Hook & Ladder twice and had a great experience both times. The outside patio is awesome, the food is good, and the customer service was attentive and friendly. I was reluctant to try this place for the longest time because I remembered that it used to be Hangar 17 and thought it was just typical bar food. Boy was I wrong! (more…)

Ginger Elizabeth Chocolate & Coffee Dessert Event April 27

Oeufs à la Neige (Floating Island): Macadamia Nut Crumble, Banana Custard and Old Soul Co. Coffee Crème Anglaise layered in a jar and topped with Chilled Poached Meringue

Oeufs à la Neige (Floating Island): Macadamia Nut Crumble, Banana Custard and Old Soul Co. Coffee Crème Anglaise layered in a jar and topped with Chilled Poached Meringue

If you know me, you know I’m a big fan of Ginger Elizabeth chocolate. I will only eat the best artisan chocolate and Ginger Elizabeth makes my soul sing. My favorite things to eat at Ginger Elizabeth are the Gianduja Chocolate Bar (made with hazelnuts and baked crepes), the Gianduja chocolate cake (I will get one whole cake a year for my birthday), the salty caramel macarons, the lemon ice cream bar, and the Oaxacan Hot Chocolate. I got really excited when I found out that Ginger Elizabeth was pairing with famous coffee houses in town such as Old Soul, Temple Coffee, and Chocolate Fish and creating one of a kind desserts on April 27th.

I ordered the Oeufs à la Neige (Floating Island) and the Cold Infused Chocolate Fish Ice Cream. The Oeufs à la Neige (Floating Island) is Macadamia Nut Crumble, Banana Custard and Old Soul Co. Coffee Crème Anglaise layered in a jar and topped with Chilled Poached Meringue. The Cold Infused Chocolate Fish Coffee Ice Cream has a Toffee Sauce Swirl with Ginger Elizabeth Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pieces.

The Oeufs à la Neige was so heavenly. It was delicate and light and served in a little jar. It wasn’t too sweet and you could actually taste the different components. It was complex, and refined, yet not heavy or rich. I actually wish that I had ordered a few more of those. The Chocolate Fish Coffee Ice Cream was sweet with little cookie dough pieces. The chocolate chips gave a perfect little crunch that balanced out the creaminess of the ice cream. I’m so glad that I went to this event and I can’t wait to go to the next Ginger Elizabeth special dessert event day!

Allergies Be Gone!

Honey and pollen from Sacramento Beekeeping

Honey and pollen from Sacramento Beekeeping & Honey

So I’m finally trying the natural remedy everyone has been talking about. Basically, you’re supposed to take a teaspoonful of bee honey made from local wildflowers and some grains of pollen every day. You add more pollen each day until you build up your tolerance and your allergies have improved. My allergies have been driving me crazy lately. I know its a bad allergy day when its windy or when I wake up with itchy eyes and a runny nose. I’ve also been trying to kill this cough forever. I will post after I’ve been doing this for awhile and let you guys know if it works.

Allergies, you can kiss my a**!

Protect Your Pets

Most of my family and friends know me and my husband to be cat lovers. We have 3 cats and the cats are a part of our family. When Kenny works late hours, they are really good company for me, especially when I’m lying in front of the TV. I would be absolutely devastated if anything happened to my cats. For this reason, they aren’t allowed outside, and I make sure to get them checked out once a year,  brush their teeth regularly, and stay on top of their shots.

I saw this link posted on Facebook and I wanted to share it. I had no idea that certain common plants like apple could be toxic to cats. Also, I have apples in my fruit bowl all the time. Please take the time to go through this list if you have a pet.
