I’m so thankful that I live in the same town as my parents. It’s been such a blessing because we have been able to hang out with them on a regular basis. We usually have dinner with them on Saturday or Sunday. It warms my heart just to hear my little girl shout out, “Popo Gung Gung!” Popo is maternal grandmother in Chinese. Gung Gung is maternal grandfather. Roxy has learned to identify my parents and my sister Ali to their face or if she sees a picture.

It’s really funny because Roxy has all members of the family, myself included, under her thumb. She can read people really well and knows whether she’s really in trouble (in which case she’ll start crying) or whether she can offer us a kiss and remedy the situation. While this is pretty cute right now, I have the feeling that Kenny and I are in for it when Roxy hits puberty.

At the age of 2 years, Roxy also has a remarkable ability to problem solve. A good example would be the front door locks. No matter what locks we put on our door, Roxy will find a way to unlock it. We had a lock which we thought was too high for her to reach. My resourceful little girl simply dragged a stool over. climbed up it, stood on top of it, and fiddled with the lock until she could reach it. I found her on top of the stool just opening the door. We did try one of those door knob covers that are supposedly kid-proof. But the problem was that I had trouble myself opening it. So back to the store it went.

This past week, Roxy got to celebrate Easter for the first time. I love that I can teach her about Easter while she does fun things like dying eggs and hunting for eggs. We had a little Easter egg hunt at a friend’s house and Roxy loved dying eggs. She was thrilled to discover the jelly beans inside and seemed to be on a sugar high for the rest of the day.

Sometimes when I’m spending time with Roxy, I look into her eyes. I thank God every single morning for making me her Mama. I don’t know where my daughter was born, but I know she grew in my heart. I can’t say she looks like me but I can look at her and instantly sense if she’s happy or upset. I don’t know where she gets her feistiness from but I know it matches mine. I don’t know what she’ll become or how many years on earth I’ll have with her. But I’ve heard the word of God and seen his works. I know Roxy is a gift from God and I continue to trust in Him as I figure out the best way to raise my daughter.
